Accommodation    The Vichougsky region was formed by the Decree of VTSIK (Central Executive Committee of Russia) in 13 of September 1926. It was singled out of Kineshemsky region into an independent region with the center in the town of Vichouga.
    The town of Vichouga, Vichougskaya and Kamenskaya volosts. Volyinevsky, Zarubensky, Makatovsky village councils of Rodnikovsky district made up Vichougsky region by 1 of October 1926.
    In 1939 Vichouga received the status of the town of the district authority.
    Archeological excavations of Ababkovsky, Potehinsky and Kashirsky hills confirm the existence of the settlements on Vichouga land. The findings from this hills indicate the existence of life here in 12-13 centuries. Vichouga is mentioned in written records in 1482 when the Great prince Ioan III granted the princes Belsky Vichouga, Kineshma, Luh volosts (districts), In those times Vishougskaya volost included a vast territory. A public road to Moscow and other central cities of Russia went through Vichouga. There were villages: Vichouga, Hrenovo, Ouglets, the grave - yard of St. Nackolas the Thaumaturgy of Ouglets, Tezino with nearby villages in the volost.
    Nowadays Vichougsky region is one of the biggest in the district. The area of the district is 1005,22 sq. km. There are also 9 rural administrations on the territory of which 172 populated areas and 3 working settlements. The population according to the preliminary census data is 23,6 thousand people including the town population 13,2 thousand people and rural - 10,4.
