Teikovo

Historical information
Accommodation    It is situated 30 km south from the district center on the cross roads from Ivanovo to Suzdal, Vladimir (through Gavrilov- Posad) to Rostov the Great and Yaroslavl. It is connected by the railway with Ivanovo and Moscow. The town is surrounded by forests and from South- West by big pead - bogs.
    Archeological excavations near the town ( Sahtish lake) determined ancient human settlements dating back to 4, 5 and 6, 000 B.C. In the place of Ilyinskaya church dominating the town (the monument of architecture of 17 century) the traces of Pagan sanctuary of Perun (Pagan god of thunder) were found. They dated back to the early pre-Christian period. The village of Teikovo is mentioned in Cadastres in the beginning of the 17 century in connection with peasant rebellions of the Troubled Times in 1613, 1618, 1651 for the first time. The village name has Ugro-Finnish roots and V.I. Dal gives in his dictionary such an explanation: “Taika (Teika) is a forest village, a forest settlement, a forest, but inhabited wild place”. Forests still surround the town and the green stripe is at the top of its emblem.
    The village of Teikovo was a trade village in 16 - 19 centuries. People’s assembling was from 500 to 2000 persons. The sales volume in Teikovo was bigger in the middle of 18 century then in Suzdal, its main competitive.
    The scales in the emblem of the town remind about the commercial past of the town. At the end of 18 century 10 factory owners began weaving production, but in half a century as a result of stiff competition the only cooperation left was the widow Karetnikovas. The founder of this factory Ivan Petrovich Karetnikov came from Moscow in 1771 and founded his first factory in 1787. The shuttle on the red background of the city’s emblem symbolizes the textile profile of the village and town in Vladimir and Ivanovo provinces. On 5,6 of September 1918 the decision to unite Teikovo and villages Vasilievo, Lifanovo, Sergeevskoye was taken at the 4-th congress of the regional Soviet. Teikovo was given the status of a town- the center of newly created Teikovo region. During the years of the Great Patriotic war an airport was built in 3 summer months with the help of the citizens of Teikovo and near by villages. The town was the center of forming and education of air landing artillery, infantry and aviation regiments.
    During the last 50 years the town grew 3 times bigger, it acquired nice comfortable micro districts: Krasniye Sosenki (Red Pinetrees), Industrial, Socialist and Komovsky.
