Savino

Historical information    Formed as a station near Moscow - Nizhni Novgorod ‘s section of the railway, opened in 1868. Since 1935 the settlement Savino became the center of the region. The region is situated on the South of Ivanovo district. It is in the neighborhood of such regions of Ivanovo district: Lezhnevsky, Yuzhsky, Shuisky and Kovrovsky, Kameshkovsky, Suzdalsky of Vladimirsky district,. The territory of the district is 794 sq. km. It forms a triangle limited by the rivers Kliazma, Theza and Ouvod. The district is divided into 2 halves by a small river Shizhegda. 15,700 inhabitants live in the region 6,000 of which live in the regional center.
    There are ancient villages on the territory of the region, their history goes back into the depth of centuries. The motherland of wondering traders (“ofens”) is the village of Alexino. The native place of Holy person Mitrophan (1623- 1703) the bishop of Voronezh, fellow - worker of Tsar Peter I is the village of Antilokhovo. On 6 of December 2003 in Antoloknovo cathedral there was a ceremonial divine service dedicated to the 300 anniversary from the day of St. Mitrophan Voronezhskys death. All priests of the region were present there.
    The main enterprise in the center is the textile factory, now “Solidarnost Ltd”. It has a long pre- Revolutionary history. The founder and the first owner of the factory was Fiodor Zaproudnov.
    In the 20s a sawing artel was organized.
    The second large working settlement Arkhipovka and the railway station Shorigino are situated it 8 km from regional center. The main enterprise here is “Arkhipovsky Textile Ltd”, but the region is mainly agricultural.
