| Historical information | Historical information Accommodation Administrative center of Pestyakovsky region. Founded in 1959. The distance from Pestyaky to Ivanovo is 122 km. The population in 01.01.2001 was 4,9 thousand people. The distance to the nearest railway station Shuya - North is 90 km Pestyaky is situated on the highway Ivanovo - Nizhni Novgorod on the small river Poureshka and lake with the same name. Pesyakovsky region has its wonderful history, which goes to the depth of centuries. The village Pesyaky was first mentioned in historical documents in 1379. Then graveyard Pestyaky was an exile place for imprisoned Lithuanian invaders. It was also a penal servitude for Lithuanian invaders in 1534. Later Pestyaky was mentioned in cadastres of Suzdal region in 1628. In 1678 Pestyaky was no longer a graveyard but a village with numerous suburbs (125 houses, 1297 people of male sex). It was owned by prince P.I.Khovansky. In 1897 Pestyaky was a big trade village, its perish comprised 78 villages. A stone church was built in the village instead of the burnt wooden one with the altars in the name of Assumption of Holy God Mother and St. Nickolas the Thaumaturgy, St. Peter- metropolitan of Moscow. In 1897 zemskaya public school was opened. The land of Pestyaky is connected with the names of princes Troubetskiye, Khovansky, Pozharsky, counts Orlov, Panin, Tscherbakov, merchant dynastys of Morozov, Sidorov, Prokhorov, Parshyn and others. Their beautiful houses and shops survived till nowadays as monuments of history and architecture. The history of Pestyaky is closely connected with the appearance and development of handicrafts: knitting, embroidery, carpentry, joinery, wooden fretwork and pottery. The descendants of princes Khovansky opened a manufacture for woolen cloth producing for the Russian army. The ready-made cloth was taken to the village of Demenino and the factory was named Demeninskaya. Fulling mill was burnt by the peasants who were desperate because of hard labor and extortion. Land owner Tscherbatova who was in possession of the manufacture sold the rest of the wool to the peasants, and they began a new handicraft knitting of mittens, stockings and socks from wool. In 1932 an embroidery artel was organized in Pestyaky. In 1930 flax - mill was put into operation and a secondary school was opened. The regional center of Vernne- Landekhovsky region was transferred to the village of Pesyaky in 1931 by the Decree of VTSIK. The region was called Pestyakovsky and the village of Pestyaky got the status of regional center. In 1936 a Technical station was organized in Pestyaky. It was serving collective farms, which were busy in flax growing, because the region was the flax- growing one in Privolzhskaya zone. The village of Pestyaky was referred to the category of working settlements with the same name by the Decree of Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of Russian Federation in 22 of April 1959.
