The region concludes 21 districts, 4 town districts (in Ivanovo town: Leninsky, Sovetsky, Oktyabrsky, Frunzensky), 6 towns of regional subordination, 11 towns of district subordination and 31 workmen's settlements. Situated in the center of European part of Russia, The greater part of the region lies in the country between two rivers the Volga and the Klyazma. Borders with Vladimirskaya, Nizhegorodskaya, Kostromskaya and Yaroslavskaya regions.
